West Coast Athletics

On Wednesday me and 35 other Grey Mainers (Grey Main School kids) went to the West Coast athletics at Anzac Park. First we had to walk all the way down to the park then we had to sit in our age groups. I was in the thousand metre race and it was ONLY 3 RACES AWAY. At this point I was freaking out. The year five girls went, then the boys went, then it was finally year 6 girls turn... I felt like I was going to pass out.  I slowly walk up to the line shaking with fear, I don't actually know why I was so scared. BANG!!!!  The gun went off and we went. On the last lap I was trying to overtake this girl and she was elbowing me and I may or may not of elbowed her back, over all I came 3rd. Next we had to do long jump and I am not going to say much, But it was very very bad. Last I had the sprints 50m and 80m and I won both of them. This means that I have qualified to go to Canterbury for them.

Overall it was a very exciting and tiring day and I cant wait to go to do West Coast Athletics next year.

PrEP!!! 2018

For the last week we have been doing PrEP our group
(Aimee Pyper Millah Neve Emily Grace Abbie Sathvika) have
decided on doing fruit jars. This year the theme of prep is garden
to the table so we thought it would be a good idea to do that.
It has been so fun making the jars, we have already had little
market and we made a profit of 191k (kiwi is the name of our
money at Grey Main). Another thing in PrEP that we do is you can make money by working and at the market you can buy other people’s product. Over all it was a success, and I can’t wait until big market to do it again.

Problem solving

WALT: Apply our maths strategies to real life word problems.
This week for maths we have learning about Problem solving I found it easy accept the white box  where I could do the maths but I didn't now how to make the equation hard. Over all I think this activity was good because these are things we will have to think about in the future. This is how we did it Read each question carefully

Decide what the important information is in the problem.

Record the equation or equations it is asking you to solve.

Solve each problem using words, diagrams and symbols to show your working.

Thank you for looking at my maths

Bye for now

Writing (Girl and Giraffe)

WALT: Write an interesting sentences to describe

Another thing we did for writing this week was to describe and make a story from a photo. I chose to write a narrative and include my descriptive sentences in the story.

I think I had a good hook to get the audience interested in reading my writing. My next learning step is to use simile and metaphor to describe.

How many adjectives can you find in my writing?

It needed to happen. He couldn’t take it anymore. He needed to go home. I had had him every day since I can remember.

I love him but he is getting too big for the house. You can’t replace a dude like him, with his big black eyes, black spots, long legs, and his ratty tail, that can’t be forgotten. My mum said I had to him take home I told her he was home with me. Me and him both knew we would never see each other again. I had to walk him down to his habitat my mum had no car. Taking him home was the worst thing that ever happened to me. The grass wet and cold I packed him a blanket so he would remember my smell. We walked and walked to where supposedly his family was living on the way. I told him stories of what it would be like with his family, it was almost like he was listening to me. After a while we found his mother and father eating leaves. When we first seen them, his eyes widened. I took off his lead and let him go. I was bawling! I knew I would miss him but it was the right thing to do.

Thank you for reading my blog 😀

Fraction Think Board

WALT: Read, write and show fractions in different ways.

For maths we were doing a Fraction think board were you chose
a fraction and then showed it in different ways. I liked this activity,
although I found the number line a little hard because I could not
figure out where to start my number line at. My next learning step is
to learn how to solve word problems involving fractions.

Thank you for looking at my blog post 😀😀

Setting Map

WALT: Identify and describe settings within a story

Also this week for writing each group got a fairy tale and we had to draw the a map showing the setting for each main event in the fairy tale. Then we had to label them from 1~6 showing the order each setting appeared in the story. I liked this activity even though I can't draw because it was a different way to show our learning. My group is working on the fairy tale The 3 Billy Goat's Gruff.

What Makes a Fairy Tale?

This week when we were at the library we were looking at what makes a fairy tale and finding a fairy tale in the library. I found looking for and fairy tale hard because we were looking in the fiction section when they were actually in non fiction. Here is what I think a fairy tale is. Next time I could put more on where they are. I liked this activity because it was hands on.

We have been very busy this week, here is a small snippet of what we have been doing.

We have been looking at different myths and theories. One of them was the Loch Ness monster. We got a paragraph of a description of the Loch Ness monster then we had to draw what we think she looks like and  here is my work...

WALT: Identify keywords that help us visualise when we read.

Then we had to choose a topic word that has to do with Nessie (loch ness monster) I picked the word murky here is what I did....

WALT: Understand and use new vocabulary

WALT: Read for information and summarise in our own words

Our class has also been investigating our own mysteries.  We are using this web site called wonderopolis where you can ask random questions and they will show you the explained answer. Here was my question and answer for this week.

My treasure
WALT: Use conjunctions to join our ideas together
WALT: Include descriptive detail

In this activity we also had to do FANBOYS if you don't know what FANBOYS are they are   conjunctions (for and nor but or yet so) - they are the fanboys. Have a look and see if you can find three FANBOYS in my writing and comment them down below

This task was took a lot of time but it ended out to be great.

How I think I went with the WALT was It was a little tricky at first but I got the hang of it.

Overall this activity was very interesting and a little tricky

Arthur's Pass Camp 2018

Last week Mamaku 2 went on the Arthurs Pass Camp. Here are some of the highs and lows of this experience.

My favourite camp activity was the devils punch bowl walk. It is a 330 step walk up to the waterfall. It is very challenging. If you want to try this walk head down to Arthurs pass on the way to chch but the site was amazing.

The funniest part was when Mrs P, Jolan and Miss Lagan had a wake up dance show in the morning it was so funny and it definitely woke us up.

My most memorable moment was sharing this camp experience with my dad and doing the scavenger hunts with him too. We almost won by ten seconds and my dad had to carry Kyah on his back for 1km.

My most challenging moment was the scavenger hunt. All we were given was a map, with clues and numbers each word we had to find, was a number. In the end we got all of the numbers but the boys still bet us.

This camp was so fun and so cold I would come back any day.  Here are some Photos from camp.

Descriptive sentience writing week 5

This week we had to do a descriptive piece of writing about a Nikau Palm.
WALT: use a variety of descriptive words to make my writing interesting.

Here is my opening sentence.

The Nikau palm is a native tree to New Zealand and found in the West Coast
